Developer Section Update
November 11, 2004, 4:02 pm

Added some notes about the projects section and the map server. The really exciting project I am working on now involves turning a mathematical model my brother wrote for observing how a tire extablishes traction against pavement into a software model. Check out the notes on it. Also, I give some background on the layout of the site. Anyhoo, you should read more.

So I took the test

You are Slackware Linux. You are the brightest among your peers, but are often mistaken as insane. Your elegant solutions to problems often take a little longer, but require much less effort to complete.

"Current Likes" in Me section
August 24, 2004, 1:58 am

I want to add a current likes section to the Me page, and have a start of one (with music as a sample) up there. Make sure to send me feedback on it!

After conference report
August 24, 2004, 12:23 am

Well, it took a full week to get this update up. I fixed a few spelling errors, fixd the timestamps on articles (except for the first two, which were text on the site before there was a news database). I am working on adding an image library for some pictures from the trip to the Me section, and I will add slides to the Developer section. That's all for now.

I leave for San Diego in 7.5 hours

Ugh. Just had to make a few more tweaks to the site before bed. The contact forms all work, now. I still have to fix the date stamp on these news items (I post this @ 11:46pm 8/7/04). And the Developer home page needs content, not my CSS test page. My head is starting to hurt, so I better hit the sack. See yall in SD. Pictures and sound clips should be comming.

Not many updates tonight or last night
August 6, 2004, 12:31 am

I moved the original news articles over to the database (instead of text). How's that for progress? Heh. Tonight and last night I was running a bunch of last minute errands before I leave on Sunday for the Conference. The trip should be fun. The weather looks to be good. On the plane ride over, I plan to finish a text file conversion program I started for a co-worker last week. It is late now (is the timestamp working yet?), so I will sign off. See you guys tomorrow.

Databases, and first PHP
August 3, 2004, 11:28 pm

First database has been created for new articles. Tonight was my first attempt at working with mySQL and PHP. Depending on my luck, you may or may not be reading this text now, as the insert is going straight into the DB. The mySQL part was handy, as I already had the ERD finished before I started, and there are some nice tools to mange mySQL DB's provided my my host. There doesn't seem to be a way to establish referential integrity thru the web forms, so I might have to sent an alter reg. I will post more in a sec under a different category.

PHP+mySQL

(Note: This article was originally text on the site, and was added to the news database later) Have the mySQL fb set up, and the read 8-3-04 new item in a record in it. I am having issues with getting php documents to parse. This is my first time at it, so ... go figure. You may or may not see another aug 3 article by this one. Also, I installed phpBB for the developer forum. It is up, but I have not touched it yet.

More content
December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm

(Note: This article was originally text on the site, and was added to the news database later) Fleshed out links; there are placeholders if nothing else. phpBB will be up when I get a chance. So will map server, though likely not before the end of August, and really unfortunately not in time for the ESRI conference. Blah. That's what I get for putting this stuff off for so long. Sucks too, because this is more fun that it used to be.

Site Layout Up
December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm

(Note: This article was originally text on the site, and was added to the news database later) New layout is in place. Old conted is archived off-site. Header, subject menu (the orange strip), and footer and includes now. Javascript library stores scripts to build things like the title with HR just under the text. And since it links out to a library, it's cached so that download time is decreased (which is good, given all the comment tag bloat).
